Metalwork

All company metalwork was produced in the smithy and operated by the foreman blacksmith who was responsible for producing a wide range of metal objects. The earliest designs by Gordon Russell include weather vanes, candelabra, sconces, plates and details for furniture such as brass handles and engraved lock plates. Fitments continued to be made by the smithy well into the 60s and 70s when it was mostly concerned with producing special fitments for use on large contract orders. Metalwork needed for jigs was also made in the smithy.
