Dressing Tables

It is of interest that the first recorded design was a Dressing
Table. Gordon Russell bedroom groups, along with dining room
furniture, accounted for the greater part of Gordon Russell Ltd
production in the 1930s.
The dressing table was very much the focal point of the bedroom, and
the most interesting in terms of design.
The Cirencester dressing table is a fine example combining, as it
does, drawer pedestals on a raised leg frame, with a central full
length mirror, made in English walnut with yew tree and ebony
bandings, bog oak handles and feet.
The tradition for fine dressing tables carried on through the
thirties and the postwar years, until the fitted bedroom took hold of the market, and demand for bedroom furniture groups declined.
