Ron Carter


OBE RDI

Studied furniture at Royal College of Art. 1949-52. Worked in USA before setting up UK consultancy in 1954.

Tutor at RCA 1956-74
Designed production furniture for Stag, Consort, Habitat, Peak, and Dancer and Hearn. Also, pieces which combine skilled hand-making with machine methods for Gordon Russell, Opus Magnum and Miles-Carter which he and Peter Miles founded in 1980.
Projects include the BBC; V&A; Terminal 4 at Heathrow; Institute of Directors; The New British Library; British Pavillion Expo 92; Ashmolian Museum; Hinxton Hall Cambridge; British Embassies abroad.
Designs produced under licence in Japan and USA

Public Honours include:
1973 Royal Designer for Industry
1994 Senior Fellow of the Royal College of Art
1999 OBE for Services to Design and Craft
