Trained as a cabinet maker and furniture designer at the Shoreditch Technical Institute (now London Guildhall University) from 1940-44.
He joined Heals as a designer and in the 1960s became freelance, lecturing during this period at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London.
In 1970 he rejoined Heals as Design Manager of Heals Contracts. In 1972 he returned to private practice and in 1984 he won the first prize in the Gordon Russell Furniture Award. He subsequently worked for Gordon Russell Limited as a consultant designer, principally on a group of chairs.
